Stevens Passive Acoustic Detection System (SPADES) provides harbor and ship based security systems and monitoring services that use advanced passive acoustic sensors to detect, track and classify surface and underwater sources of sound including surface vessels, swimmers, divers, submersible vehicles, and other vessels. SPADES is a highly-portable, near-shore and harbor surveillance system that can be used as a standalone system for underwater surveillance or in conjunction with other systems.
SPADES RECEIVED A PATENT AWARD IN 2012. IN 2013, STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY EXECUTED A LICENSING AGREEMENT WITH SONARDYNE INC., A SUBSIDIARY OF UNITED KINGDOM-BASED SONARDYNE INTERNATIONAL LTD., A MANUFACTURER OF SUBSEA NAVIGATION AND SECURITY TECHNOLOGIES.
SPADES was developed at Stevens Institute of Technology as a result of research of acoustic parameters fundamental to underwater acoustic threat detection, including diver acoustic signatures, boat and ship signatures, acoustic transmission loss, and acoustic environmental noise. The SPADES system has been successfully demonstrated in the field in ports and coastal locations for automated diver and surface ship detection and classification.
