2012 National Security Innovation Competition

Colorado Springs, CO April 27, 2012

The 2012 National Security Innovation Competition (NSIC) sponsored  by the National Homeland Defense Foundation will be held in Colorado Springs, April 27, at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.  Some of our Centers of Excellence universities have won this competition in the past. Competitors include both U.S. and Canadian universities.

The Innovation Competition highlights ongoing basic and applied university research that serves security and defense purposes. It covers the entire spectrum of cyber security, critical infrastructure protection, space, biometrics, clean and alternative energies, CBRNE detection, and first responder capability needs.  All entries are assessed by technical experts who identify the top ten student research efforts who then come to Colorado Springs to compete with oral presentations before a national panel of judges that has in the past included DHS, DOD, CIA, DOE, venture capital companies, IP/patent firms and security and defense industry leadership.  DHS S&T has been the lead judge for the last four years. Scholarship grants are given to the winners and there is significant opportunity to collaborate with judges and other observers to publish research, facilitate further research and mentoring.  DOD's Counter Terrorism Technical Support Office has committed to compete funding for any project that meets its upcoming Feb 2012 innovation solicitation.

Please take advantage of entering this competition and give it your widest dissemination among your students.  The first entry deadline is completing a simple, "Intent to compete" form which can be found at www.NHDF.org and select the Innovation Competition tab.  For any questions, use this site or contact the Executive Director, Mark Volcheff, at 719-660-6762 or mvolcheff@nhdf.org
